Great Advice To Help You Navigate The World Of Cats

A lot of people get a cat because kittens are so adorable. Then, when they get the cat home, they’re not sure what to do. They are not always as expressive as dogs are, so cats can sometimes be puzzling. Here are a couple ways you can keep your cat happy.

You need to take your pet to the vet on a regular basis. Understand that cats require vaccinations in order to stay healthy, and the veterinarian needs to regularly check for any health problems. Try to keep the same vet during the life of your pet. This also allows the vet to become more familiar with your cat’s unique health needs and personality.

Avoid being kept awake by your cat romping through the house at night. When you first get your kitten, establish a habit of putting it to bed in a comfortable crate with a nice bed, litter box, food and water at night. If you start this early, your cat will appreciate having its own safe, cozy room.

Regular visits to the vet will make sure that you cat is as healthy as he can be. Your cat needs to get a checkup about once every year, or more if there are issues that come up. Cats need to be seen by a vet right away if there are injuries or health problems that don’t go away.

Keep dangerous chemicals away from your cat. Just like children, cats need to be kept away from items like cleaning materials since they could harm them. These chemicals are basically poison and if your cats consumes some or gets some on them, they could get very sick, get burned, or possibly die. Store these items in a place where your cat can’t find them or use a child-proof lock on their location.

It’s not easy convincing your pet that the kitchen counter is a no-cats zone. Cats like heights and like to see everything happening around them. You can try to combat this problem by designating some high-up places for your cat to hang out. One way to keep your cats from continuously jumping on the counter is to install a cat tower near the problem counter.

Use quality food to prevent crystals from forming in a cat’s urine. These are very painful and expensive to treat. Feed cats food that’s low in magnesium. Check the label. Products that contain fish are normally much higher in magnesium over ones containing poultry.

Handle your kitten often. The longer your cat is handled as a kitten, the more readily they will accept being handled when they are grown, especially around their paws. This is important as all cats will have to visit the vet occasionally, and this process is much easier and less stressful if the cat is accustomed to being handled. It will also make grooming and nail trimming much easier.

Cats are pretty low maintenance pets. They do not need as much attention and one-on-one time as dogs do. Cleaning the litter box is one of the most dreaded chores in the house. Investing in a good self-cleaning litter box can help to reduce the amount of times you have to clean it out.

Cats are great pets, but their litter boxes can be unsightly and have an odor. If you can’t stand the sight of your litter box, then it is time to go shopping. There are many different styles of litter boxes on the market. Some are even disguised as fake potted plants. Not only does it look better, it controls the smell as well.

Do not wait too long to scoop any waste that has accumulated in a cat litter box. When left dirty for too long, bacteria can grow and it can cause health issues for you and your kitten. It is best to do this every single day so you avoid any issues.

While it is perfectly normal for a dog to pant a lot of the time, you should be alarmed if you notice your cat doing it. It may only be a small case of anxiety, but in some cases it is something much more serious like cardiovascular or respiratory distress.

Keep track of your feline friend by having the animal microchipped. This small device is implanted beneath the skin between your cat’s shoulder blades. Microchip implantation may sting for a few seconds, but the implant is otherwise unnoticeable and will not cause your pet any discomfort. This chip makes it easier for animal control to locate your cat if it goes missing.

Where did you put the litter box? Do not hide the box simply to reduce the smell. This litter box must stay in an easy-to-find spot for your cat. Cats can be finicky; that’s why you should give them space for their litter box that is familiar and does not put them off. Keep this in mind when deciding on the permanent placement for your best friend’s potty.

Take notice if and when your cat ever stops conducting their business in their litter box. Abandoning proper litter box habits is often a warning sign of serious health problems in cats. A potential bladder or kidney infection may be the reason for this. Therefore, whenever you notice your cat not using its litter box, call your veterinarian.
